With the upgrade to Intel's Tiger Lake CPUs, Lenovo brings the second generation of the ThinkBook 15 up to the current technology. While the design remained unchanged, the connection equipment was slightly adjusted.
While in the predecessor model, you could still hide a small USB dongle, such as a transmitter for a wireless keyboard, behind a cover, there is now a Thunderbolt 4 port instead. The insides have also changed and now offer a space for a second SSD.
In addition, Lenovo offers the ThinkBook 15 Gen2 with two different battery capacities. The 45-Wh model was unable to achieve a good battery life in our test and had to be connected back to the charger after about 5.5 hours. The second option offers a 60-Wh battery that is supposed to last for up to 8 hours away from the charger according to Lenovo.
While the predecessor was able to last for one hour longer here, the second generation of the ThinkBook 15 scores in the system performance. The Intel Core i5-1135G7 used in our test unit is also able to maintain its performance over a longer time period at the level of a AMD Ryzen 5 4500U.
Even though the internal Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 graphics unit should be able to benefit from the dual-channel configuration of the working memory used here, the GPU performance turns out slightly below average. However, compared to the Intel UHD Graphics 620 of the predecessor, a significant performance increase was noticeable.
