Are Google and Lenovo teaming up to make the ultimate Chromebook? - TechRadar

lenovo.indah.link

Google and Lenovo could be working on an exciting new Chromebook – at least that’s what new rumors are suggesting.

While Google is primarily a software company, it’s also made some of the best Chromebooks ever. The Pixelbook and Pixelbook Go are examples of just how good these Chrome OS-powered laptops can be, so many people have been eagerly awaiting the company’s next release.

It’s been a long wait – the Pixelbook Go launched back in 2019, and while it still remains one of our favorite Chromebooks, it’s also well overdue a successor.

Lenovo is also behind some brilliant Chromebooks as well, including the fantastic Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook, so the idea that it may work with Google on a new Chromebook is certainly exciting.

 What’s the evidence?

So, where are these rumors coming from? Chrome Unboxed has done some digging and found references in the Chromium Gerrit (which lists what people are working on in Chrome and Chrome OS) to a device known as ‘Lindar’.

What’s interesting is that references to Lindar mention lightbar support. This would be a strip of lights that shows a different color when the lid is closed depending on the battery level.

This feature was last seen on Google’s premium Pixelbook Chromebook back in 2015. The lightbar was also included on the Pixel C tablet, and an animated version of it displays when you use Google Assistant on a smartphone.

It’s closely associated with Google – especially premium devices – which suggests Lindar could be a high-end Google product.

As Chrome Unboxed points out, there’s also suggestions that Lindar will be based on the ‘Volteer’ baseboard, which means it will use the latest Intel Tiger Lake processors, again pointing at a powerful Chromebook device.

So, what about Lenovo’s involvement? In the Lindar commits, there are emails from the “@lcfc.corp-partner.google.com” domain. LCFC Electronics works closely with Lenovo to provide parts for its devices, so Chrome Unboxed has looked to see if LCFC makes products for anyone other than Lenovo – and it appears not.

If the Lindar Chromebook is being made by LCFC Electronics, there’s a good chance it will be for Lenovo.

While the evidence is a bit thin at the moment – and remember this is all supposition until we hear anything official – it’s not beyond the realms of believability.

Google has teamed up with various manufacturers in the past for its Nexus lineup of phones and tablets, which are branded as Google devices.

Google has also worked closely with HP to create the HP Chromebook 11, which really felt like a collaborative effort – it even had the same lightbar as the Pixelbook.

We’d love Google to get more involved with Chromebook hardware again, considering how good its previous attempts were, so hopefully we’ll hear more about this mystery Lindar device soon.

Deal | Clearance discount brings the featherweight Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano below the $1000 mark - Notebookcheck.net

lenovo.indah.link

In Lenovo's pantheon of ThinkPads, the X1 line sits at the top of the pecking order. Naturally, as the most high-end series, its models are usually the most expensive there are. Case in point: When the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 1, the lightest ThinkPad yet with a weight below 1 kg or just 1.99 lbs, came out in late 2020, the starting price sat at $1,721. A far cry from the promised base price of $1,599 and not a good deal at all.

It is not unusual though for Lenovo to push out their ThinkPad laptops in the US store with jacked-up prices. In pretty much all cases, there are significant discounts a few weeks after availability. As it turned out, the X1 Nano was no exception to the rule.

Recently, the price went as low as $1,199. Now, it can be had for even less, as it dips below the $1,000 mark for the first time. At the moment, the base model of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 1 costs $949 with the eCoupon "CLEARANCE5". This configuration includes the Intel Core i5-1130G7, 8 GB soldered RAM and a 256 GB SSD - the RAM in particular could be a deal breaker for many. The SSD though is upgradable, and even the base model includes the excellent 16:10 2K IPS display.

Read our detailed X1 Nano review for more info on the display and other aspects of the ThinkPad laptop.

Alternatively, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano can also be bought from Amazon.com.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano review: Featherlight and feature-rich work laptop - CNET

lenovo.indah.link
008-lenovo-thinkpad-x1
Sarah Tew/CNET

The ThinkPad X1 Nano is Lenovo's lightest ThinkPad ever, weighing just 2 pounds (907 grams), and yet it still retains a lot of what we like about the rest of the bigger and (not much) heavier X1 business laptop line. That list of likes includes solid build quality, strong productivity performance, a comfortable -- if small -- keyboard, a nice display and the latest security and privacy features available. The only real hiccup is a battery life shorter than I'm used to seeing from an ultraportable such as this. Otherwise, the X1 Nano is a laptop you won't mind getting from your IT department to slip into your bag every day.

Like

  • Incredibly light but sturdy body
  • High-quality 16:10 display
  • Several security and privacy features

Don't Like

  • Battery life is short for the category
  • Memory soldered on

If you're buying the X1 Nano for yourself, however, the laptop currently starts at a reasonable price of $950, though that model is marked as "clearance." The configuration I tested has a $3,129 regular price and a far lower but still expensive $1,887 sale price. Compared to the base model, my test configuration has twice the memory at 16GB, double the storage at 512GB and an 11th-gen Core i7 instead of a Core i5.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano

Price as reviewed $1,877
Display size/resolution 13-inch 2,160x1,350-pixel display
CPU 2.1GHz Intel Core i7-1160G7
Memory 16GB 4267MHz LPDDR4X (onboard)
Graphics 128MB Intel Iris Xe Graphics
Storage 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD
Networking 802.11ax wireless, Bluetooth 5.1
Connections Thunderbolt 4 USB-C (x2), 3.5mm audio jack
Operating system Windows 10 Pro (2H02)

The clearance model is pretty enticing and would be a good choice for a commuter laptop for work or school. You'll get greater performance longevity out of the version I tested, though, with its slightly faster processor, extra RAM (it's onboard and can't be upgraded) and additional storage space for files and software. Business laptops are regularly more expensive than consumer models, too, because they are more durable and offer greater privacy and security features.

018-lenovo-thinkpad-x1

The X1 Nano has a privacy shutter for its webcam.

Sarah Tew/CNET

For the X1 Nano that means a Mil-Spec-tested magnesium-aluminum body with a hybrid carbon-fiber lid, a match-on-chip fingerprint reader (the biometric info is stored on the reader, not the computer) with anti-spoofing technology, and an IR camera for facial recognition. The BIOS is self-healing, too, meaning it can repair itself from a back-up in case of a malicious attack or a failed or interrupted update.

The Nano can also be configured with an ultrawideband radar sensor that can tell when you walk away from it and quickly lock the laptop. It can also sense when you return and automatically wake and unlock the Nano. Called Human-Presence Detection, it's simultaneously awesome and a tad creepy. This setting and many more can be controlled through the laptop's Commercial Vantage app.

In the app you'll find everything from battery and power settings to audio tweaks for its mics and speakers to turning on and off the keyboard's various hotkeys. As you might expect, the controls are designed to improve your work experience, such as setting the laptop's mics and speakers (there are four of both) to improve your VoIP call quality while also suppressing keyboard noise.

009-lenovo-thinkpad-x1

The Nano X1 has a TrackPoint and touchpad, but a touchscreen is optional.

Sarah Tew/CNET

Small but not cramped

There are always trade-offs when you make a laptop this small, thin and light but Lenovo manages to keep things comfortable. For instance, it has a 13-inch display but gives you some extra vertical room to work with its 16:10 aspect ratio. Also, its 2K resolution is a fair compromise between full HD and 4K, and it can hit a 450-nit brightness level (for working in bright conditions) and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The display looks good right out of the box. However, that extra resolution might have something to do with its shorter-than-anticipated battery life of 8 hours, 22 minutes on our video streaming test.

The keyboard and touchpad are predictably smaller to fit into the X1 Nano's petite frame. Lenovo reduced the size of the function keys and a few others but none of them slowed my typing or seemingly increased my typing errors. The slim body does mean there isn't as much key travel as one of its beefier ThinkPads. It's still a comfortable typing experience.

026-lenovo-thinkpad-x1

A notebook that weighs the same as an actual notebook.

Sarah Tew/CNET

Even the port assortment on the X1 Nano is small with only two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headset jack -- though Thunderbolt 4 handles all your connection needs and power with a single cable and the right USB-C hub. Plus, it charges fast using Thunderbolt 4, too, getting you to 80% of a full charge in an hour.

While it is expensive, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano earns its price tag with its durable lightweight design, high-quality display, a fleet of features to improve the user experience and easily managed security and privacy options.

Lenovo announces new advisory services and updates to its HCI stack - SiliconANGLE News

lenovo.indah.link

Lenovo Group Ltd. today announced a slate of new advisory services for customers that need help with their digital transformations.

The new services were introduced alongside a number of updates to the company’s hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.

Among the consulting services are Principal Consultant-led workshops, which Lenovo described as collaborative “white boarding sessions” that will help an organization’s applications and platforms teams decide what their options are. The workshops will cover topics such as SQL Server 2019 migration and Microsoft Azure migration.

Lenovo will also lend its consulting expertise to services such as VMware Cloud Foundation Design and Deployment, Hybrid Cloud Assessment, Hybrid Cloud Azure Migration Design Services and Hybrid Cloud Implementation Services, it said.

In addition to the advisory services, Lenovo announced a new addition to its family of hyperconverged infrastructure systems, and some updates to its existing models. HCI platforms are software-defined, unified systems that combine the basic elements of traditional data centers, with storage, compute, networking and management all bundled into a single appliance. The idea with hyperconverged infrastructure is that it reduces data center complexity while also boosting scalability.

Lenovo’s new HCI systems include a new SAP HANA Certified ThinkAgile VX platform aimed at customers that need to run very large SAP HANA databases on-premises. The ThinkAgile VX7820 8-socket system, as it’s known, has twice as many processors and direct-connect NVMe as previous systems, and up to five times faster load times, Lenovo said. That means customers can increase both the size and quantity of virtual machines running SAP workloads.

In addition to the new platform, Lenovo said all of its ThinkAgile VX HCI systems are getting a software upgrade that will deliver management improvements such as 75% faster cluster deployments and simplified lifecycle management via VMware Inc.’s vSphere Lifecycle Manager.

Lenovo said its existing ThinkAgile HX1021 HCR platform for edge deployments is getting a security update too, with the addition of Lenovo ThinkShield Security providing intrusion detection and tamper protection capabilities. Finally, Lenovo said its ThinkAgile MX series HCR platforms that are designed for running Azure Stack software and services can now be purchased easily via the Lenovo Cloud Marketplace through an as-a-service model.

Lakeside Software Technology Supercharges Lenovo Device Intelligence - MarTech Series

lenovo.indah.link

Lakeside Software, the leader in digital experience management, announced their collaboration with Lenovo to launch Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus, its new enhanced version of its cloud-based Software-as-a-Service PC health management tool. The combination of Lakeside Software’s premier digital experience management (DEM) solution, the Digital Experience Cloud, and Lenovo’s advanced predictive analytics software, empowers administrators with a broader set of analytics and tools to drive actionable insights and proactively impact service operations.

“We’re thrilled about this collaboration and how the integration of Lakeside’s Digital Experience Cloud solution into the Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus tool enables Lenovo to extend its commitment and footprint in the DEM space,” said Dan Salinas, vice president of Business Development, Lakeside. “Lakeside’s cloud-first, multi-tenant approach is not only highly extensible, but it also keeps user data separate for enhanced privacy and security. Our proactive detection and automated remediation capabilities enable IT admins to identify and resolve issues before they impact productivity.”

Marketing Technology News: MarTech Interview with Robert Glazer, CEO at Acceleration Partners

Lenovo Device Intelligence, unveiled last September, assists enterprise-level IT administrators in the monitoring, diagnosing and remediation of PC issues as well as helping to predict potential system failures or performance issues before they occur. When developing Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus, Lenovo collaborated with Lakeside Software based on its unparalleled anonymous end-user big data collection capabilities, proactive engine, insights, and position as a recognized industry leader in the DEM market.

“Predictive analytics is known to reduce IT costs and device downtime in large organizations,” said Igor Bergman, vice president of Cloud and Software for PCs and Smart Devices, Lenovo. “We developed Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus specifically to address pains like these in the enterprise. Its high accuracy rate in predicting, for example, the most common blue screen failures before they happen and applications that cause performance degradation will save IT administrators valuable time in diagnosing and resolving these productivity killers. Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus also incorporates other robust capabilities such as PC fleet and device-level insights, analytics and proven issue remediations.”

The new Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus solution uses Lenovo’s signature AI-driven predictive analytics. It is enhanced through Lakeside’s Digital Experience Cloud, which is powered by its underlying SysTrack technology. The solution analyzes an organization’s PC health and maintenance data as well as a data lake of aggregated, anonymous system issues from millions of devices. These solutions uncover patterns, anomalies, and correlations to detect issues and yield robust insights for IT administrators. Lenovo’s new DEM solution now adds even more proactive device insights and increased functionality to drive better business outcomes.

Marketing Technology News: Sonic Foundry Announces Virtual MSX21 May 19 to 20

Bergman from Lenovo continued, “We are collaborating with Lakeside Software to help us deliver these capabilities and to complement our core competency in the predictive analytics space. The pairing of both companies’ technologies delivers a powerful, rich feature set for customers wanting the power of advanced AI predictive analytics and proactive device insights to help keep fleets at optimal performance and employee uptime high. Ultimately, we think this will provide significant ROI for large organizations over time.”

By capturing and analyzing 10,000+ anonymous employee device data points every 15 seconds, SysTrack brings robust telemetry to the Lenovo Device Intelligence Plus platform. Lakeside’s model is lightweight and provides enhanced protection against data loss regardless of when employees work remotely or get disconnected from the internet.

Lenovo is refreshing many of its laptop lines in the coming months with 11th-gen Intel or AMD Ryzen 5000 processors, the latest Wi-Fi standards and enhanced security features, among other changes. The new models will begin rolling out later this month through May, but if you're ready to upgrade now, many of Lenovo's current laptops are marked down, including some with deep clearance discounts. You'll find huge price cuts on a variety of laptops, from business-class ThinkPads to two-in-one convertible Yogas to a high-powered Legion gaming laptop.

For my money, the best deal going is the Yoga 7i two-in-one based on the Intel Evo platform that promises "mobile-like" performance in a laptop, meaning instant waking, fast charging and long battery life. The ThinkPad X13 at $902 is also attractive; it's a premium ultraportable that's nearly as sleek as the flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon at a much more approachable price.

You'll need discount codes for some of these Lenovo deals, which we've listed below, but they should appear on the Lenovo page too. Now let's dive into the deals and find you a new Lenovo laptop. We'll keep this page updated with all the latest Lenovo deals.

Lenovo

You can get a well-equipped model of Lenovo's flagship ThinkPad for $1,643 with code THINKMAR. It features a 10th-gen Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB solid-state drive. The 14-inch display offers full HD (1,920x1,080-pixel) resolution and is rated for 400 nits of brightness.

Lenovo

At a mere 1.99 pounds, the X1 Nano holds the title of the lightest ThinkPad. This Intel Evo laptop is based on a 13-inch, 2K display, with an 11th-gen Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM, Intel Iris Xe graphics and a 512GB SSD. It's only $1,150 with code THINKMAR.

Lenovo

Lenovo's ThinkPad T series is second only to the company's flagship X1 Carbon line in the ThinkPad pecking order. The ThinkPad T14s is a slimmer version of the ThinkPad T14, though not quite as thin as the flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This configuration is deeply discounted with code CLEARANCE5 and features a 10th-gen Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The 14-inch display features a full HD resolution and an impressive 500 nits of brightness.

Lenovo

This ThinkPad X13 is a 13-inch ultraportable for those who can't afford the high prices of the X1 Carbon. The price of this AMD-based sale model is more than half off with the code CLEARANCE5 and it features a Ryzen 5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The 13.3-inch display should be crisp and bright with a full HD resolution and is rated for 500 nits.

Joshua Goldman/CNET

Our favorite two-in-one laptop for the business set, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga boasts an abundance of hardware options and security features wrapped up in a thin, light aluminum frame. Discounted with code CLEARANCE5, this model gives you an eighth-gen Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. It also includes the ThinkPad Pen Pro. The 14-inch screen has a full HD resolution and 400 nits of brightness.

Lenovo's new midrange two-in-one convertible laptop/tablet is already on sale. It features the same design as the Yoga C740 it replaces but inside has received an update to Intel's 11th-gen CPUs. This sale model is $389 off -- no code needed -- and features an 11th-gen Core i7 chip, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Its 15-inch touch display can rotate 360 degrees into tablet mode and is rated for an impressive 500 nits of brightness. With its 11th-gen Core chip, the Yoga 7i gets Intel's Evo label, which means among other things that the laptop has oodles of battery life, fast-charging and the ability to wake from sleep instantly.

You can save $430 on this 14-inch configuration that features an 11th-gen Core i7 chip, 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. No code needed.

This discounted configuration with code GAMEON features a 10th-gen Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics. With a 1TB SSD and a 512GB SSD, there's room to store the largest game libraries.
