The Slim 7 fits plenty of power into its slender frame
LenovoLooking for a gaming laptop that weighs less than an armored tank? The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 looks like a very strong contender.
The 15in laptop weighs only 4.1 pounds (1.86kg), yet it doesn’t compromise on components that will please gamers.
Lenovo plumps for the latest range of AMD Ryzen mobile processors, which have been vastly outperforming their Intel equivalents in recent benchmarks. The Slim 7 can be specced with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 4900H processor, which can boost to up to 4.4GHz.
The high-performance processor is paired with Nvidia graphics, with the laptop able to be configured with a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, GTX 1660 Ti or an RTX 2060.
Various options are on the table for memory and storage too, with the specs topping out at 32GB of RAM and 2TB of M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD storage. You can expect to pay a phenomenal premium if you’re stretching for the 2TB SSD, though.

LenovoThere is no shortage of display options, either, with the option to configure a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) panel that supports a 60Hz refresh rate. Gamers are more likely to be swayed by the middle option of a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time, although it’s not as bright as the 4K option.
Battery life is always something of an afterthought on a gaming laptop that will likely remain chained to the mains, but the 71Whr battery promises up to eight hours of runtime on the spec sheet, although you won’t get anywhere near that when playing games. Rapid Charge Pro gets the battery back up to 50% in less than half an hour, if you opt for either the 170W or 230W chargers.
Wi-Fi 6 support is included, as is Bluetooth 5.1, a 4-in-1 SD card reader and a fingerprint reader for speedy log ins. Lenovo is renowned for making great keyboards, and the backlit model here includes a numberpad on the right-hand side, as well as a generously-sized trackpad.
The laptop has an understated style to it, too, perhaps appealing to the kind of gamer that’s turned off by strip lighting and rainbow-colored keyboards.
Prices start from $1,370 when the laptop goes on sale later this month, although you can expect to pay considerably more than that if you crank up the processor, graphics and storage to the maximum available.
