In the past, gaming and ThinkPad laptops were like natural enemies. After all, ThinkPads as business devices were meant for work, not for play. Consequentially, they were no good for playing games. The exceptions were the mobile workstation ThinkPads of the W and P series. Machines like the Lenovo ThinkPad P53 could play even the newest games, but with their professional Nvidia Quadro GPUs, they were not meant for gaming.
It appears that Lenovo sees a potential niche to expand its ThinkPad lineup into the gaming market after all: A new ThinkPad model called "ThinkPad T15g Gen 1" has appeared online on multiple certification sites and now also on Lenovo's support website.
While there are no official render pictures of the Lenovo T15g yet, the Korean certification website has a picture of the new laptop. It shows a laptop visually identical to the upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 1. The obvious implication: Lenovo is reusing the ThinkPad P15 chassis for a gaming focused model.
How do we know that this would be a gaming focused model? Lenovo's support website already lists the drivers of the ThinkPad T15g. The GPU driver, which is shared between ThinkPad P15, P17, P15v, T15p and T15g, lists the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q. Since neither of the other ThinkPad laptops listed feature those GPUs, they have to be used in the ThinkPad T15g.
With the ThinkPad T15g reusing the design of the P15, it is probably identical in all other aspects, including the screen choices and Intel Comet-Lake H CPUs.
Other details about the Lenovo ThinkPad T15g are still unknown: When will it come out? And will it be released world-wide? Lenovo has released Asia exclusive ThinkPads in the past, which could certainly be the case here as well. So far, there has been no official announcement of the Lenovo ThinkPad T15g Gen 1.
