Lenovo's ThinkPad T series used to feature thicker, more performance oriented models in the past, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad T440p or its bigger brother, the ThinkPad T540p. The last T ThinkPad with the "p" suffix was the 2017 model Lenovo ThinkPad T470p. Since then, the mainstream business line has been focused on the ultrabook segment.

It seems like Lenovo is somewhat backtracking this decision, as a new T ThinkPad laptop with the p-suffix has been (quietly) released: The new Lenovo ThinkPad T15p, which shares its design with the workstation model ThinkPad P15v.

Lenovo ThinkPad T15p Gen 1: Heftier chassis, more features

Accordingly, the ThinkPad T15p Gen 1 has uses a thicker chassis than its ultrabook cousin ThinkPad T15. With a thickness of 22.7 mm, the Lenovo T15p is not as thick as the p-suffixed models of the past, but still 3 mm thicker than the regular model. It is also slightly heavier (2.07 kg instead of 1.83 kg).

For the added heft, users gain several features that the regular T series used to have: A full-size SD card reader, a proprietary slim-tip charging port and a second M.2 SSD as well as a second RAM slot. The battery capacity also increases from 57 to 68 Wh.

Faster CPU & GPU than the regular ThinkPad T15

In addition, the Lenovo ThinkPad T15p Gen 1 ditches the Intel Comet Lake U CPUs in favor of faster Comet Lake H chips, with the eight-core chip Intel Core i7-10875H as the fastest option. The Nvidia GeForce MX330 is also replaced by a faster GPU: The optional Nvidia GeFoce GTX 1050, making the ThinkPad T15p a premier, as this is the first time a GeForce GTX GPU is used in the T series business line.

The remaining specs are almost identical to the ThinkPad T15, which includes a keyboard with a numpad, 15.6 inch 16:9 screens and plenty of ports, though it is notable that the ThinkPad T15p only features a single USB C port instead of two like the thinner T15. WWAN is optional for the T15p.

Since the Lenovo ThinkPad T15p already appears on Lenovo's website, it should not take too long until it is available.
