Lenovo’s Tab P11 Pro is a $499 tablet with an OLED screen - The Verge

Lenovo has launched the new Tab P11 Pro, a midrange Android 10 tablet with an 11.5-inch OLED display that seems like a fantastic option if you watch a lot of movies. It starts at $499 and will be available during the holiday season.

The Tab P11 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 730G processor, the same one that’s found in the Google Pixel 4A. So while it’s not nearly as powerful as the Snapdragon 865 Plus used in Samsung’s new Tab S7 and S7 Plus, it should run relatively smoothly if you avoid intensive games and applications.

But for what it lacks in speed, it seems to make up for with a better screen than any other tablet that comes to mind in this price range. It has a 16:10 aspect ratio OLED screen (2,560 x 1,600) with a peak brightness of 500 nits. In terms of security, it has a fingerprint sensor built into the display.

Lenovo implemented a four-speaker JBL system with Dolby Atmos support and a huge 8,600mAh battery. Whether you’re on a long flight or train ride, you won’t have to hunt for a power outlet while you’re binging movies and TV shows. Each configuration comes with 128GB of storage, but its microSD slot will let you expand that.

The Tab P11 Pro looks strikingly similar to the iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 Plus. One design choice I’m particularly fond of is that the Tab P11 Pro’s camera is located on the long side of the tablet. So, if you’re using it in landscape mode to type, the camera will be just above the display like it is on most laptops. Lenovo says that its camera is capable of blurring out the background, too, so in this age of endless video meetings, that seems great to have.

Lenovo made a pen, keyboard, and kickstand pack, and if you want that bundled in, it will cost $599.99. That’s a good price considering how much the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft charge for extra accessories. If you get them, something worth knowing is that Lenovo says the tablet’s software will automatically adapt to a desktop-like experience when the keyboard latches to its side-mounted pogo pins a la Apple’s Smart Connector.

The new Tab P11 Pro’s main competition is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 I mentioned above, and it’s easy to see where Lenovo’s doesn’t match it when just comparing specs. It doesn’t support 5G (though in certain regions outside of the US, you’ll be able to buy an LTE-ready version of the Tab P11 Pro), nor does its screen have a fast 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung’s tablets likely run rings around the Tab P11 Pro with its Snapdragon 865 Plus processor and 8GB of RAM. But if all you want is an Android tablet with a beautiful OLED display, $499 is certainly a more appealing price than Samsung’s smaller $649 tablet that has an LCD screen.
