RALEIGH – Wake County will provide some 85,000 laptops to students through a nearly $24 million contract awarded to PC giant Lenovo.
Lenovo, the world’s top personal computer seller, operates one of its two global headquarters in Morrisville and maintains several other facilities in the Triangle, including its data center group. The other Lenovo HQ is in Beijing.
Marlo Gaddis, chief technology officer for Wake schools, asked the Wake school board to approve the contract.
The contract is worth $23,970,000.00.
“[A bid] was released in July requesting proposals for chromebook devices meeting specific configuration requirements. Intent of the award is to purchase and distribute approximately 85,000 devices to students across the district,” Gaddis said.
“Eight proposals were received. After thorough analysis by the review committee of all information collected, the committee recommends purchasing the Lenovo 300e chromebook directly from Lenovo. Their bid was deemed the best overall value.”
Prices for the Lenovo 300e vary based on features and options.
