The Lenovo SmartNICs are powered by field-programmable gate arrays (FGPAs), the most widely deployed acceleration technology for programmable SmartNICs. The Lenovo product line includes the TRXFP50V04 (half-height, 2-port, 25 GbE) and the TRXFP200V02 (full-height, 2-port, 100 GbE). Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000 tablet to take on the similar Lenovo Duet Chromebook - About Chromebooks

If you want a new Chrome OS tablet these days, you can choose any that you like as long as you choose the Lenovo Duet Chromebook. There simply aren’t any options in this market; heck even the Google Pixel Slate from 2018 is officially unavailable at this point. Hold out a little while though and you might pull the trigger on a Lenovo Duet Chromebook lookalike in the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000.

This new tablet has appeared before any official Asus announcement at a number of online retailers and spotted by Chrome Unboxed.

There are quite a few similarities between the upcoming Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000 and the Duet.

Both have a 1920 x 1200 touchscreen display, a MediaTek processor, 4 GB of memory, a single USB Type-C port, detachable keyboard, and kickstand. In fact, the kickstand accessory for the Flip appears to have the same fabric and color as the Duet.

The MediaTek MT8183 is basically the same chip inside the Lenovo Duet Chromebook, although it’s branded with a different name. Both have 2 GHz clock speeds with a combination of four Cortex A-73 and four Cortex A-53 cores.

However, there are some subtle differences, according to the specs shown by retailers.

The display of the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000 is slightly larger and also dimmer than the one on the Lenovo Duet Chromebook.

That screen is 10.1-inches long and you’ll get an extra 0.4-inches of screen space with the Asus. Although larger, it tops out at 320 nits of brightness as opposed to the 400 nit panel on the Duet.

And that detachable keyboard on the Flip? It appears to magnetically attach to both the bottom edge of the tablet and to the bottom screen bezel, similar to a Microsoft Surface keyboard.

That’s much better for overall stability although it can still be wonky on a lap.

Oh and that fabric kickstand attachment appears to work both in landscape and in portrait mode based on retailer images. Clever, if true!

A USI stylus is also included with the tablet and it appears you can store the pen right in the device itself:

Other than those unique aspects, the rest of the specs are about what you’d expect for a Chrome OS tablet running on this MediaTek silicon: 128 GB of eMMC storage, a 2MP front camera, 8MP rear camera, WiFi 5, Bluetooth 4.2, and a two-cell 27WHr battery.

Note that there’s no mention of a microSD card slot (just like the Lenovo Duet Chromebook) and that the single Type-C port uses USB 2.0, which is a bit of a bummer.

So when might this tablet contender appear and for how much?

Many of the online retailers show early February for estimated availability with pricing ranging from 361 to 449 Euros. I’m expecting U.S. pricing to be around $350 but that’s just a guess. If that availability date is true, we might be hearing something official from Asus any day now.

No sooner has the calendar turned to February than Lenovo started slashing laptop prices in preparation for its annual Presidents Day sale. You'll find huge price cuts on all variety of laptops, from business-class ThinkPads to two-in-one convertible Yogas to high-powered Legion gaming laptops.

The best deal to my eyes at the moment is a well-appointed model of the flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 line that you can get for less than $1,000; I haven't seen an X1 Carbon Gen 8 creep into the triple digits before. While it lacks the latest Intel silicon, it serves up ample memory and solid-state storage capacity inside the solidly rugged yet incredibly thin X1 Carbon chassis.

One step down from the X1 Carbon line, the ThinkPad T14 is on sale for $900. Lenovo's new Yoga 7i and 9i two-in-one convertibles are also both on sale along with our favorite premium business convertible, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga. For gamers, there are high-powered Legion Y540 and Legion 7i gaming laptops on sale.

Lenovo's new midrange two-in-one convertible laptop/tablet is already on sale. It features the same design as the Yoga C740 it replaces but inside received an update to Intel's 11th-gen CPUs. Although we didn't test this exact model, Lenovo laptops generally offer great performance, a comfortable keyboard, and solid build quality. It also has a decent amount of ports to connect peripherals; you get two USB 3.2 ports, a USB 2.0, HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 

With a weight of 3.7 pounds and measuring 14.25 x 10.0 x 0.79 inches, the IdeaPad 3 is on par with the Acer Aspire 5 (3.8 pounds, 14.3 x 9.9 x 0.7 inches). By comparison, it's lighter and smaller than the Acer Aspire E 15 (5 pounds, 15 x 10.2 x 1.2 inches). 

If you're bargain hunting for a cheap but good laptop under $500, at $449, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 deal is a no brainer.

Leaked Asus Chromebook tablet could rival Lenovo Duet - TechRadar

Specs and images have leaked online detailing the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000, a Chromebook tablet which looks set to rival the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet.

According to information leaked by Chrome Unboxed, the so-called Asus CM3000 — allegedly in development under the codename Saturn — will use a MediaTek MT8183 processor and come with a 10.5-inch full HD display and detachable keyboard.

The device looks to be shipping with the ‘Flip’ branding based on various listings found online (this German retailer seems the most comprehensive), but won’t be a foldable laptop like the others in the Flip range. 

Instead, the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000 will be an ARM-powered tablet equipped with a keyboard, kickstand back (which pictures suggest may accommodate both portrait and landscape modes) and stowable USI pen.

Other reported features include a 3.5mm audio jack and a keyboard cover with a soft-touch fabric surface to magnetically attach it to the tablet — much like those used on Microsoft's Surface convertibles (like the Surface Pro 7).

An uncrowded market

News of a new Chrome OS-powered tablet is big given the few comparable devices on the market right now. The Lenovo IdeaPad Duet has been the front-runner since its introduction in 2020, though the new Asus Chromebook Flip looks set to be the first device to rival its success. 

It doesn’t look to be improving much upon the specs of the Duet — its MediaTek processor is pretty much a reheated version of the Lenovo’s Helio processor — but the Asus will come with a slightly larger screen (0.4-inch larger than the Duet) and some menial features, like the audio jack and magnetic cover, not seen on its competitor. 

Interestingly, the Chromebook Flip CM3000 doesn’t seem to improve on the Duet’s resolution specs despite its slightly larger screen, and its increased size makes it that little bit heavier, so the jury is out on whether it marks an improvement or simply a competitive rival. Given that the Duet has largely stood alone in the market as the only real Chromebook tablet option, we’ll safely assume the latter.

Another part of the Lenovo Duet’s appeal was its exceptionally-reasonable price tag. At $299 (or £299.99 in the UK and around AU$399), we described it as “the best value you're going to find in a portable device of its kind, hands down.”

Though details are still unconfirmed at this stage, listings suggest the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000 will ship for over $500 (that’s around £350 or AU$399), making it significantly more expensive than its Lenovo counterpart despite not packing a whole load of improved features. 

It’s worth noting that the Lenovo Duet was reported to have cost less than it ended up costing upon release, so it’s wise to take any reported price tags with a pinch of salt. In any case, the Asus Chromebook Flip CM3000 looks set to finally offer some competition in the Chrome-powered tablet market.
